Reports using old universes

The question was related to new columns that are added to existing reports. Based on previous feedback it appears I’ll have to recreate these reports.

That’s correct! As I mentioned, the “first time” the query is run, the default object formats provided by the Designer are used. Rerunning the query, or adding more objects… either of these is no longer going to be the “first time” for the report.

If you used version 4.0, it had a similar problem. If you created a query with four objects, you would get a default report. If you then invoked the query panel and removed one of those objects, you were left with an empty column full of #SYNTAX errors.

In 4.1 they introduced the feature that let the Query Panel keep the objects on the report more in sync with the data provider. However, they still only apply formats the first time around.

So, adding a new object will cause the object to show up on the report, but will not use the default format provided by the Designer because the “new report” bit has been turned off.

Hope this helps explain things more!
