I am trying to access the repository database to get a list of reports and the objects used in the reports. Is it possible to extract that kind of information from the rep-db?

No, the documents are stored as BLOBS in the document domain of the Business Objects repository. You can use Auditor (a software “product”) or a VBA macro to retrieve the universe objects used in data providers/documents - see also this tool in BOB’s Download section.
