Reporting off CMS repository

Hi,
We would like to enhance our visibility of the CMS repository and looking any ideas or third party products. In the old BO 5.x world, we built reports off a customized “ManagerO universe”. Some areas of CMS reporting we are looking for include:

  1. User IDs, groups and security
    - New BO patch has a security program but can only can only read Enterprise. We are using Windows NT authentication
  2. Metadata from universes (objects, help text, and groups)
    - no ideas except using the “Print” option from Designer
  3. Report and user activity - this is fine. BOXI auditor universe provides sufficient visibility
  4. Scheduling by time, owner, report, action, and status -
    - Instance Manager only list but cannot slice and dice.

Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you.

NOAD’s EQM4 has a module called Performance Manager. It is supposed to provide real-time information on jobs and schedules.

The Security Viewer provides the permission settings of all users and groups. But of course, as you have pointed out, it is for Enterprise only. If you want to look at the Windows NT side, Windows NT has its own administration tool for such task.

If you have purchased DI (Data Integrator), it has a Metadata Report which is very powerful. It provides a comprehensive view of all the report dependencies.

If you need more information, you can always look into the SDK.

Thank you for the reply. I would like more information on the DI product. From the white papers, it appears to be an ETL tool with meta data reporting components. Our data warehouse is built on SAP BW so the ETL area is off limits if DI needs anything more than read. The only thing we are looking for in the metadata reporting is universe, unv class, unv object, and full help text description. Any information would be appreciated.

It is an ETL tool. You can get more information on this product from the Business Objects web site or on BOB’s DI forum.

If you only need universe objects information and not report dependencies, you can simply print them out from Designer.

You may find this utility useful. It uses the Designer SDK, and works against one universe at a time, but it does a fairly thorough job of documenting the universe.
