Renaming a Universe Issues

We need to rename our Universe, we also have reports that are already built using the original name of the Universe.

To do the Universe rename I do the following: 1) Import the original Universe from the Repository. 2) Do a File Save As under the new PC file name for the Universe. 3) Change the Parameters of the Universe to have a different internal Universe name. Make no changes to connections or other things under Parameters.
4) Export the new Universe using the new internal Universe name. 5) Change the reports using Data View to point to the new Universe. 6) Delete the old Universe from the repository. 7) Run the changed reports.

…Then I get the ERROR “You are not granted on the Universe. Please contact your administrator” when I run the reports and click on “Values Button” for Prompts. The prompts are built in the data provider for the reports and not in the Universe.

To correct the problem I delete the object with the prompt from the conditions section of the Data Provider. Next I put it back from the renamed Universe. When I run again the “Values Button” on the prompt works fine and the report runs correctly.

QUESTIONS: Are there better ways to rename a Universe? If not, does anyone know how to lighten the impact on Prompts? Finally… are there any other issues that I am not aware of in renaming a Universe?

SORRY for the length!

I have had problems with Save As for universes before. The problems with prompts you have experienced are probably due to the fact that lists of values do not get repointed to the new copy of the universe when you perform a save as. That means that when you remove the old copy of the universe the list of values in your report no longer works. One way round this is to go through the new copy of the universe and press the reset default button for each list of values. This re-generates each list to the new copy of the universe.

That is the method I have used to get round all the problems with save as and prompts. I wouldn’t have thought just removing the prompt and replacing it with another would work but obviously if it does then that is a better way round the problem.
