a follow up from a previous post of mine here…
back in January 99, I asked about a situation where my users were only able
to open reports as read-only docs from a Novell LAN server. Some folks
repliedthat I needed to delete a “roaming” profile, some sd I needed to
grant write access on the LAN drive to my users, etc…there were other
replies.
Surprisingly, none of these ideas was found to be the cause. We were able
to solve the case, however, and of course, much faster than BO tech support!
(it only took us 2-3 months!!). the issue was with Novell Intranetware
client, which we run on our NT 4.0 clients. There is a known bug with this
version of Novell client (4.11 maybe?). Anyway, there is a patch put out by
Novell (the 4.1 exe patch, forget the exact name). This patch works, but is
tricky to install. Another solution is to remove the Novell client
altogether and use Microsoft Client for Novell (MSCN). In our testing, both
of these solutions rectified the error. I forwarded my results to BO Tech,
who thanked me and said they would write it up. (hehe I should get paid
for this!)
