Hi,

What is your exact need. To make a BO migration or to make a repository database upgrade?

Hello.

So your current repository is on MS SQL Server 2000?
And your new repository is on MS SQL Server 2005?
So this means you have to update the server name in your repository connections, right? You’re not upgrading BO versions, right? If so…

Your first task is to get the repository tables and data from the old database to the new one. With a move from/to SQL Server, there should be no issues and your DBA should have an easy time doing this for you. Once you have the tables and data in the new server, what remains is telling Business Objects where everything is located…

  1. Do a Safe Recovery in Supervisor, and define a new BOMain.key using the new connection parameters to the new server. This will get you logged in to the new repository on your machine through Supervisor.

  2. In Supervisor, go to Tools/Repository and modify the connections for your Universe and Document domain(s) to point to the new server. On this machine, through Designer and/or BusinessObjects, test the import of universes and reports.

  3. When you’re satisfied that you have valid connections to everything on the new server, replace and share the BOMain.key on all the other client machines.

If you had “moved” your repository, all of the tables at the same time, you could have followed the steps from this Supervisor FAQ, and then immediately changed the universe and document domain connections to point to the new repository [as long as you were moving between similar database servers].

But since you set up a new repository and now just want to migrate universes and documents – you should probably just import all of the universes and documents from the old repository, log out, log back into the new repository, and export all of them (via Designer for universes via Reporter for documents).

However, any “inbox” documents won’t get migrated.
