I have not tried this but if I am not wrong, you can create a small report with 3-4 objects in the way you want it and store it as a template. Then if you are creating a report from scratch, select the new template instead of default template.
If you a report already, apply the template. But my experience says that applying template is more tedious because you have to rework on formatting and headers and footers anyway.
