Maarten,

A couple (well, 3 actually) of things:

  1. mySupervisor interacts directly with the BusinessObjects Repository

database.
So - this invalidates Business Objects support agreements. Or have you approved the product with Business Objects?

  1. You password reminder tool on your web-site (I’ve previously registered) is not working (404 error)

  2. I’ll let the list manager decide whether this classifies as ‘spamming the list’ Mind you, it’s at least more appropriate than saying ‘I’m available for work, please employ me’

Jonathan

Jonathan,

  1. There are several products on the market that incorporate Business Objects such as HP OpenView. The products are not supported by Business Objects but by the company who designed it. That’s why we provide support for it… please know that it is intended for support purposes only: creating users, deleting them… it does not replace the Supervisor!

The product has been welcomed by several people within Business Objects around the globe and to quote one of them: “If we would have known of this we would have won project X”.

  1. I know  but we acquired Netmining.com and we have a redesigned it and lost some data… Netmining.be is no longer valid…

Maarten

Jonathan,

what you are looking at is a mix. If you trouble with your BO products you can call BO support if you have problems with our tool, then you can contact us. Just the same as if you should have a problem with WebIntelligence on NT: if it is related to the product you contact BO otherwise you hope (read pray) for an answer from Microsoft.

Regards,

Maarten

Maarten,

What happens if we buy your software and it knackers our repository? Your company will say “It wasn’t our tool - it’s too good to do silly things like that” and BO will say “Since you’re using third party software to modify the repository we’re not supporting you”.

I await your response with interest…

Steve

Steve,

What if you have an database administrator who deletes the database (happened on numerous occasions)? Who do you blame then?

Our application uses a logging functionality so that you are able to trace what changes were made and correct if needed be. (I don’t think BO provides this)

Let’s objectively see what harm one could do with our application: - disable or enable a user/group

  • relink a user to another group etc…
  • disable or enable universe, document, repository rights

Nothing happens on the security level: row and object restrictions nor on the level of database connections.

Note that Business Objects provides a full description on how you can interact directly with the repository (under freeware of the CD-ROM). Many customers use this to create users automatically with SQL scripts etc…

Well that’s what I think of it…

Regards,

Maarten
