Problem with Number Format during import.

Hi,

I am facing a weird problem, I have a universe in which I specified a default format to one of the numeric object. I exported this universe to the repository, and when the reporter module imports the universe on to my box, the report with this field has comma and decimal swapped in the display, the number which should get displayed as “1,22,333.00” is displayed as “1.22.333,00”. Infact all the formats which are displayed in the default formats list have the same problem. The same thing does not happen to the universe which I saved on my local disk.

This is not the regional settings as I checked and the region, date/time and country settings are properly set to America on both the server on which the repository is sitting and also on my desktop. We just upgraded from SQL Server 6.5 to SQL server 7.0, could this be a reason ???, any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is the environment that we are running BO in,

DB : SQL Server 7.0.
BO : Full client 5.0.
Connection : Using ODBC drivers.

Thanks,
Satish.

Many of us I have noticed are having the same problem. There seems to be a bug in version 5.0 (want a surprise). I have my end users save their doc’s and sign out of Business Objects totally, then when they sign back in the formatting problem corrects itself. But every now and then it happens again. I am told that the service pack 5.1 corrects this problem. We will be installing it within a week and if the problem goes away, I will update this email.

We have experienced this same problem, after doing an upgrade to 5.01…

It gets better, but initially we say a lot of numbers with (european?) a reversed format

Brent

Maybe 5.02, out in the the next few weeks…?

But every now and then it happens again.

I had a fix from business objects that can be applied to the local drive for this- it’s pretty simple so see if it helps you:

There is a parameter called InitNumericSeparator in the .sbo file under BO/DataAccess.
Have this parameter equal to ‘,’. It’s probably set to ‘.,’ at the moment.

It’s worth a try…

Thank you for the info, Nancy.

Note to anyone else who is having this problem, we have noted a possible relationship between this formatting issue and exporting a universe. I’d be curious to know if anyone else has noticed the same thing. As other listers have noted, the formatting problem “goes away” once the user closes/reopens their BO window, but it certainly was painful the first few times it happened.

“the formatting problem “goes away” once the user closes/reopens” is not a 100% true. Yes it goes away, but it also comes back every now and them. How could Business Objects miss this one.

Same experience here. We applied the same fix but the number formatting issue still appears from time to time in WebI and BO.
