I’ve made a small universe on my Sybase repository. It is by no means complete, but you can query eg
user information
who has access to which universes
who has access to which documents
who has access to which commands
universe data
universe connections
universe objects (and their data)
You can’t query joins, contexts and probably lots of other stuff you’re interested in, but I’m not (for now).
Is it safe to mail this universe to the list as an attachment (it’s 13k)? I usually read this list in digest mode and the attached mails I’ve seen are illegible. If it isn’t safe, mail me and I’ll send you a copy.
I would be interested in a partial or full universe for a repository in Informix, or one that is not database specific.
I’ve tried to get the ManagerO universe to work with Informix, but there seems to be a lot of Oracle specific things in it. I have not had the time to work through all the errors. One thing I came across a lot of was the += operator in the joins. Informix has no += operator. I’m not familiar with Oracle so I’m not sure how to convert these joins to Informix. There’s been some discussion on this list before about outer joins in Oracle being special. Informix does outer joins with just the OUTER word on the FROM clause. Is this the same as the += operator in Oracle? Does anybody have a list of all the Oracle specific commands in the ManagerO universe? The Informix technical people said they would be willing to help me convert the SQL to Informix. The only problem I have is that the Designer doesn’t show me all the SQL for the joins, so it’s hard to tell exactly what it’s doing.
Stijn, if you didn’t use any Sybase specific SQL, could you send me a copy of your universe?
Also, if anyone has a copy of a repository universe that works with DB2, please send me a copy. It will probably work with Informix as well. From what I’ve seen, they are very similar.
Thanks,

Dave Rathbun has offered to put the universe on his website (www.islink.com) and I’ve sent him a copy. I hope it will be available soon. If you can’t get it from his site, mail me and I will send a copy.

I don’t think I use Sybase specific sql. However I use auxilliary tables and stored procedures and I don’t know if they comply with the Informix syntax. It shouldn’t be too hard to convert them. I hardly use outer joins, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

I will get Stijn’s work posted on the “Download” section of our website within the next few days. I have a “travel” day today (8/11) so the earliest it will be available is the evening of 8/12.
To find his work (as well as other BusObj technical docs) point your browser to www.islink.com, and select the “Download” link across the top of the page.
From there select “BusinessObjects” from the left hand side. I have received
the zip file, and it does include a “readme” file as well as some supplementary scripts that were used to avoid multiple outer joins in a Sybase environment.
I will post a note to the list to confirm when I get the universe placed on our web site.
Regards,
Dave Rathbun

WRONG! I was able to squeeze a few minutes of time this afternoon to do this, so the file is now available. (8/11/98)

WRONG again… the actual address to review BusObj technical files on our web site is www.islink.com/bobjtech. Or, if you want to navigate go to www.islink.com, click on ‘Download Here!’ followed by ‘Technical Notes’ on the left hand side.
