Optimizing BusinessObjects Performance in a Large-Scale Deployment

Hello

I’m managing a large-scale SAP BusinessObjects deployment & experiencing performance issues; especially during peak usage times. Reports take significantly longer to run, and the system occasionally slows down or even times out when multiple users are accessing dashboards simultaneously. :innocent:

We’ve tried optimizing report queries and reducing data volume, but the problem persists.

Would adjusting load balancing, clustering configurations, or JVM settings help improve performance? Are there best practices for tuning BusinessObjects servers to handle high user loads efficiently?

I’d appreciate any insights from those who have optimized their BusinessObjects environments for scalability and responsiveness.

I found this guide on performance tuning for SAP BusinessObjects: Performance tuning in Business Objects Environment - SAP Community Minitab – but I’d love to hear real-world strategies from others who have tackled similar issues. :upside_down_face:

Thank you !! :slightly_smiling_face:

There is not an existing “best practices” document available that I am aware of. Being Business Objects, there is also no “Easy button”. Each installation and use is unique and what may work for one user may not work for another.

I will offer one thing that has worked well for us.

Some time ago we reconfigured the architecture of our installation to distribute our processing across the cluster. By distributing, I mean we have dedicated nodes to Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence, and management functions. This was especially beneficial to our Web Intelligence processing as we were able to increase the number of Web Intelligence Processing servers on our Web Intelligence nodes to improve processing and throughput. Guidance provided by SAP Support at the time was the you can run a Web Intelligence Processing server for each core on your server.
