OLEDB connection to SQL Server 2000

I can find a lot of information from BOB that it is possible but can’t seem to figure out how to accomplish this. Currenly all of our connections are based on ODBC and I would like to convert them to OLEDB. When I try to create a new connection I do not have an option for OLEDB provider. I know how to provide a proper connection string provided I get that far, but I don’t know what’s missing. I also had nothing to do with the installation so, am I missing a component or something.

BO version is 6.1a

Thanks!

A) I believe Business Objects v6.1a does not support OLEDB (not sure about v6.1b or v6.5).

B) For Business Objects v5.x: Did you install the Data Access Pack for OLEDB/MS SQL Server for Business Objects?

A) Darnit!

B) I wasn’t involved in the 5.1.4 setup of BO. I’ve recently been promoted to administrating the universe and supervisor stuff. Promotion a la the other guy left.

Thanks Andreas. I would strongly like to switch but I guess it doesn’t matter much since query speed is decent and datasets are relatively small (typically <1,000,000)

I have heard (from a very reliable source) that OLEDB will be supported in 6.5.

I have a very hard time understanding their decision to not include it. ODBC is like the AOL of data connections, but I don’t want to sound like this guy right here ------> :reallymad:

We had rather (not) funny effects on OLEDB connections…
DB-Servers consumend by WEBI using OLEDB -(only webirestart cures…)
and other not so nice features…
Anything odd with OLEDB known? - didn’t find anything justifying my suspect… any parameters that have to be watched?
