Moving of Repository to new Oracle database instance

I have been asked to move our entire BO repository (Security, Universe and Document Domains) to a new Oracle instance.

I have never done anything close to this before, does anyone have any helpful advise or steps I should follow?

You haven’t mentioned what version you are on, but it sounds like you are on one of the older (pre-XI) versions of BO.

If so, the repository is merely a set of database tables. Basically you are going to move a database instance (export and import).

Advice:

  1. Schedule the migration during off hours (of course);
  2. Warn the users so that they do not logon while you are moving the repository;
  3. Backup the database first;
  4. After moving the database, you will have to re-point your document and universe domains to the appropriate places.
  5. Do a lot of testing afterwards - import and export some universes, Corporate Documents, etc.
