migration of seagate crystal reports

Hi,
i am working on seagate crystal reports version 8 and we want to migrate it to business objects version XI r2.Is the migration possible.
Is there any tool for migration…pls let me know…

Not really called a migration. Crystal XI can open v8 report, when you save them you are prompted if you want to upgrade the version to XI.

that menas i shouls have version XI and seagate crystal reports v8 on my system and i will be able to open the v8 report in vXI witout any hassels.

If you install v8 first and then XI, they will both coexist on the same machine. Reports that you save in XI can NOT be opened in v8.

if i dont have v8 then how can i open reports in XI to check.

To check what? You started the question by saying you are working with Crystal Reports version 8. You could just open the reports with Crystal Reports XI and then run them, if they return the same data (which they should), then just save them and they are now a version XI report file.

I know i am bit confusing you.

So if i HAVE crystal reports v XI and save the reports developed on seagate crystal reports 8.It will be possible to view reports in crystal reports XI.
Thank you.

One more query,i have business objects vXIR2 installed on different machine with unix version, there i ahve products like universe builder and business view…are these products to create crystal reports.

Crystal Reports can connect directly to your database (usually by using an ODBC connection.
The Universe Builder is for creating Universes from OLAP datasource, the Designer is for creating Universes from relational datasource, the Business View Manager is for creating Business View against relational datasources.
All of these products Crystal Reports can use as a source for creating reports. In these products you could embed column and row level security to control the data users get into a report.
