Microsoft Terminal Server Lockup

Hi Everyone!!

Excuse the previous email, I hit the send button too quick.

We are currently testing BusinessObjects on MTS. Sometimes, when we open a file, the report itself will display in full (all columns, numbers, headers and so forth) and the cursor turns from the hourglass to an arrow. We think we are ready to go, but not so fast. Even though our cursor is an arrow, we can’t click on anything or do anything. There are no indicators at the bottom of the screen or anything indicating that BO is still working. We usually have to sit and wait at least 2 more minutes before the lock up ends.

During this extra processing the view data, refresh and data providers buttons are all greyed out. When these are no longer greyed out, we can work with the document. Is anyone out there on Terminal Server with BO and/or have you experienced this???

Hardware:

Windows NT Terminal Server 4.0 Comp Upgrd from Citrix Winframe Citrix Metaframe
Citrix Metaframe Load Balancing
BO 4.1
Oracle 7.3
SQL*Net 2.3.3

Thanks!!!

Maria,
We do not use Terminal Server, but I have experienced something similar on my PC. When opening the first report of the day, my PC will often hang for a similar period of time, before resuming and working normally.

The interesting part is that I have observed that during this time the program SPOOL32 gets busied up, using all the available processor time. I have observed this by using the program WINTOP which is part of the kernel tools available from the Microsoft web site.

I might add, I have not seen any other of our PC’s behave in this way, but I hope this may point you in the right direction.
