maybe a basic question

hello all

can anyone tellme the difference between using the built un count or sum command in a measure (properties tab) or using the sql comand on the select section

in some cases i had different data from using one or another ina webi report , but in asking about the designer difference
(or link me to an answer if this has been answered before)
