.lsi Files

Dear All

Just a quickie. What are the pdac and sdac.lsi files, that are stored in the LocData, folder required for? If they are missing from an install, could this effect any of the modules??

TIA

Dave

PDAC = Personal connections
SDAC = Shared connections

BusObj allows you to create 3 different types of database connections: Personal, Shared, and Secured. Secured connections are stored only in the repository. Personal and Shared must be stored outside of the repository.

If they are missing, it simply means that no connections of either of those types have been created. I don’t believe that it is a problem if these files are not present. I tested with 4.1.3 by deleting these files. They were simply recreated when I attempted to create a new personal connection.

The same thing happened in v5.

Dave

The ‘Personal connections(pdac.lsi)’ are made use of normally to access data specific to the Local Machine.

And the Shared Connetions(sdac.lsi) are normally made use of by Some Users in a restricted network
where in, the Testing of Universes can be done before entire group of Users are given the access through
the Secured Connections in Production.

Hope this helps.

Another note:
SDAC.LSI and PDAC.LSI.
These files are analogous to SDAC.SSI and PDAC.SSI. The difference between the *.LSI files and the *.SSI files is simple. The *.LSI files are used and stored locally (Local Security Information) and the *.SSI files deal with shared files (Shared Security Information). These are files that would be stored and accessed from a shared drive. You either use a *.LSI file or a *.SSI file - not both. To know which ones you are using, go to SETUP and click the Modify button. The Security files are selected as either Shared or Local. The Local files are stored in the LOCDATA directory. The Shared files are stored wherever you tell it in Setup.

SDAC.***
This file contains all the shared connections that you create in the Designer module of BO.

PDAC.***
This file contains all the personal connections that you create in the Designer module of BO.

Or from Free Hand SQL in the client module.
