LOV problem

Hi,

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.

I created a LOV for an object and that LOV consists of a number of = objects (reference for users). This seems to work fine but for one user = when they see the LOV for the object they only get a single object = returned. When I look at the universe in Designer on her machine the LOV = is just defined as a single object (I deleted the universe from her = machine so that it would download again from the repository). I checked = the universe of my machine and the LOV still contains all the objects = and it is checked to export LOV with the universe. She is retrieving the = universe from the same domain as every one else. I tried to set up = another BO user and get her to use that but it still doesn’t work.

I’m confused!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Rachael

Okay, here’s the answer. Or at least a very likely answer. If you go through this solution and it doesn’t fix the problem, be sure to let “the list” know and we’ll try againg. My bet is…

At some point, this user had created a LOV herself. This could have been done via the TOOLS menu, or simply by asking for a List of values from the query panel. The LOV files, once created on the user side, are NOT overwritten by LOV’s from the Designer.

Ah, but you deleted the universe, you say… ?

It doesn’t matter. You also need to delete the LOV files to make a clean start. Where are the LOV files? Glad you asked!

If you look in the USERDOCS directory, you will find a directory with the same name as your universe domain. Inside of that directory you will find a directory with the same name as the short name of the universe. Inside that directory you will find the LOV files that were either a) downloaded by the user, or b) created by the user.

Delete that entire directory, then delete the universe, and reimport. Now the designer LOV’s will be imported.

It works this way: The user cannot alter the universe, so the universe changes are automatically imported. The user CAN alter the LOV’s, so once that is done, the LOV is not replaced.

For that reason, when I set up a custom LOV in the designer, I clear the check box that allows users to edit that list of values.

We will have a technical document posted on our web site later this week that details this and other LOV issues. I will post a note when it is out there and available for review.

I got the user to do delete the LOV and universe and reimport but she is still just seeing the one object in the LOV. Could it be something in her registry thats causing this? Any other ideas?
Thanks

Did you check the option “Export with universe” on the Properties tab for that object in Designer ?
Otherwise your modifications will not be available to the user.

If anyone can help with the following it would be much appreciated…

When selecting the ‘Values’ button on a prompt, rather than display the list then screen hangs. We have purged and refreshed the LoV on the objects in question, however without success. Also, this does not happen to every user.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You said…

Me…

Try these things. Try deleting the lov file on the local pc and see what happens. Try exporting the lov with the universe and see what happens. I’ve had lots of lov problems in the past but my thoughts are organized as to which things fixed which problems

Hi Lee -
This is actually, because you are using ‘Prompt’ syntax in your LOV, according to BO.

I was seeing the exact same issue. I wanted the Values button to either be greyed out or not show at all, since it wasn’t doing anything.

Anyhow, I have an enhancement request in with BO, but this doesn’t mean it will go into a release. As a workaround, check out…
Resolution ID #6561 on the BO Knowledge Base. You will basically need to create another object to be used specifically in the LOV. I’m hoping for an enhancement to fix this. The workaround isn’t too nice.

Hello,
There are two issues:

  1. Whenever universe is exported, the error message ‘not able to write UserDocs\universe domain\universe*.lov’ is displayed. Some of the lovs are lost in the process.
There are around 48 lov files in all. Whenever this message occurs only about 25 gets written to the local directory. 2.Our client has a dev, prod and qa domain for universe and docs. Sometimes the lovs are not available in the prod and qa domain even though the universe was exported without any problem. If an object x’s lov is just displaying x alone, then I have not checked export with universe. Only when more than one object is displayed in the lov, I have checked the export with universe box. Thanks in advance,
    Anuradha

Check out KB resolution # 7636. In summary, you need to see if you have the setting “Delete corporate documents sent by other users” disabled for your designers. Since LOV’s are stored in the document domain, if this setting is turned off it can cause the symptoms that you describe.

The solution is to enabled this setting back for all universe designers.
