I’m having problems with long text fields. The situation is as follows :
Product : Business objects 4.1
Platform : Windows NT 4 SP 6
Connection : Generic ODBC
Middleware : DBIntegrator from UNIFY Corporation Database : UNIFY Dataserver 6.3. BD
Symptom : Retrieving long text fields from this database
cuts them off at byte 1023.
We tried the same DSN from with MS Query. It gave no problem in this software.
Checked the settings in the connection panel (limited text length = off).
We can’t get an answer from support from BusinessObjects. They say the UNIFY products are not supported by them. Of course UNIFY say’s it’s a businessobjects problem (it works fine with MS Excel). So we’re stuck here.
Does anyone know about a setting (maybe in the registry ) which cause this cut-off a byte 1023 ?
Many thanks in advance.

Did you ever get a response to this problem? -I am now getting the same problem retrieving long text values from MS Access 97 via Business Objects 5.0. i.e. Text is cut off at byte 1023. Again, the Control limit for long text objects is unticked on the Universe parameters, and again other ODBC query tools all retrieve the data perfectly!
Thanks,
Andrew

The Business Objects knowledge base reveals this to be a “feature” of 5.0 to be fixed in v5.0.2

We were having a similar problem here with Informix and BLOB type defined as a text field. The long text field had 31,000 characters (potentially) that an application wanted to retrieve. No matter how we set the controls on the universe it still only brought back 1023 characters. I opened a support case and it went to Paris for analysis. They were able to recreate the problem in 4.1.3 and said this was fixed in a later release (4.1.7 or higher) with an upgraded Informix client.
We haven’t yet tested this problem with version 5.0.1, but I expect to see it fixed. I would be curious to see what tech support says about your case.
Indeed, I did get a solution for the problem. In my case it was caused by a setting on the database (UNIFY/2000) which limited the length of long text columns. Changing it solved the issue.
In your case, it seems quit dark. MS Access has, as far as I know, no settings. Of course, may be it is a DB that contains linked tables. In that case I would suspect the underlying DB to be the cause.
