Logic behind report variables? (NOT User or Universe objec

Hi there–

Sorry to be a pest - but I just thought I’d try posting this again in the hopes that someone might have missed it last time…

I’m involved in created some very complicated reports based on relatively simple queries. Extracting the SQL from the Query panel for both universe and user objects is no problem, but I’d really like to be able to somehow copy out all the logic behind my report variables/formulae, other than editing each one by one and copying out the formula. Does anyone have any idea if this is possible? It would certainly make it easier to reuse formulae (which can’t be duplicated by SQL for a user object) from report to report…

Thanks,
Amy Miller

Amy,

You may be able to acheive what you’re looking for by using Report Templates. Templates can contain variables and you can preserve them when applying a template to a new report. So, if you have alot of custom variables derived from a given set of objects, as long as those base objects exist in a new report, applying a template with your custom variables should render valid variables. Look at template options under Format => Apply Template [Options…] when viewing a report.

Hope That Helps,

That would help for report standardization purposes, but I was also hoping to extract variable logic for documentation purposes. That is, I’d like to be able to document the logic for meetings with users when the invevitable “how did you get that number” comes up.

Thanks–
Amy
