Two weeks ago we added a Cisco load balancer in front of our 2 WebI servers. The network group that set up the load balancer connected it to a proxy server that then routes the login requests to one of the WebI servers. This proxy server is also used for applications other than Business Objects.
Unfortunately, the proxy server is set to require a message back from WebI in 5 minutes. If a report takes longer than 5 minutes to run, the proxy server sends a “This page cannot be displayed” message to the user’s browser, even though the report is still running. We have asked the network group to increase the time to 30 minutes at least, but they don’t want to change it because it would affect all the applications using the proxy server. If we can’t convice them to make the change we may reluctantly end up pulling to load balancer out.
Has anyone else used a hardware load balancer with a proxy server between it and the WebI servers? Have you run into this problem? Do you have any advice for us?
