Joining Universes.... greying out fields

I have wracked my brains enough and so its time to turn to experts for help…

here is the scenario… i have two universes which hold different sets of data one for orders and the other for customer related information. I want to join these two universes so that i can get order information and the related customer information on one report

i have created links on the key fields by View Data->Go definition tab->Choose the common keys and then click “Link To” button

Unfortunately when i go back to the report and try to drag the fields from the second query to the report they are greyed out… and i am not able to do so. However the fields on which i linked are availbale for me to drag and drop

Does this mean that i have to link each field…???

Also for common fields like cust name and order number i have fields in both but for others i dont have common fields to link to… this is driving me up the wall… :x

cheers

Ravi.

Read the stuff that Dave recommended.

Data providers to not join; they link. You have to link all dimensions. If a dimension is not linked, it really shouldn’t be used.
