I am experiencing a problem when trying to install BO 4.1.3. It seems to proceed allright, but when it comes to installing the ODBCpart of BO it stops, and a message says that _su.exe caused a page fault in the kernel32.dll. I’ve already deinstalled the ODBC Source Manager, installed it again, deinstalled some other programs, but it won’t help.

I had this same problem when attempting to install BusinessObjects on one of the PCs at this company. I unchecked the option to install the “Demo Kit” in the Utilities section. If you need the demo database and associated universe you can copy them from a PC you were successful at installing the whole program on.

Have Business Objects prompt you to replace DLLs. It seems that the DLL that BO uses to create the ODBC Datasource is an incompatible version on your system. You will want to replace the MSVCRT40.dll (Microsofts C Run-time Library). Replace this with an OLDER Version and all will be well.
This may have been replaced by an installation of Netscape, or something else that uses a newer version that BO is not certified to work with.
I have not run into any issues with using the older version of this DLL.

A long shot: We found that the drive Business Objects installation files are on must have a letter mapped to it or the installation fails. (we were sharing a CD-ROM from a laptop).
The client has been configured and I can connect to the DB thro SQL*Plus.
BO can’t connect to the DB thro the Oracle Client but can connect to the DB thro the ODBC driver. The error message that appears is ‘The database is not responding’.
Any Solutions ?
The Middlware check on the DB shows ok status for the DB connection.
While defining a connection, I’ve tried all teh various possible combinations for the Database engine.
Thanks,
Shanks
