Hi,
We have faced a similar issue when we tried installing XI R2 on Solaris machine. I went throught many articles posted in BOB, but nothing worked out for me.
Check this link
https://bobj-board.org/t/59094
It gives few solutions.
May not be specific to HP unix but with respect to Solaris/Unix in general. Hope one or the other works for you.
Also just check whether the locale info. in unix is set correctly and the Oracle is configured for UTF 8.
In our solaris box, the locale information in not set correctly, while installation we got an error that a package is missing (the exact error message we received was: Missing package: SUNWeu8os (American English/UTF-8 L10N For OS Environment User Files)), but our systems guy told us that that should not effect the installation. (but it seems that XI requires the Locale information to be correct). We are trying to down load the required patch and will try installing once again.
See if you too get any such silimar error while installing in HP unix. After installing XI just check the locale info is correct. Aslo confirm from your DBA whether oracle is configured for/as UTF 8.
Will keep posted about the updates.
Regards
Arun
