Install on Unix/Solaris 2.5/Sybase - Cannot access network

Operating Environment:

Unix/Solaris 2.5.1/C Shell
Sybase Open Client 10.03
BO for Unix: 4.0.5.5

We are using BO under NT front-end with Sybase back-end for a long time. I am trying to add some more end-users using BO on Unix front-end/Solaris.

Problem:

When trying to create BOMain.key, using Safe Recovery/Supervisor, after getting to the 2/3 screent where I set up the network layer as Sybase Open Client 10.03, I get the message of Cannot access network layer. SYBASE parameter is set up to where my open client is (in may particular case /apps/sybase/oc.1003). Also, LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set up to BOHOME and SYBASE. Also, I am able to do simple isql from that specific Host to the specific Sybase Server where Business Objects Security Domain was established - this tells me that there is a good communication between this Host and the Sybase Server.

The reason that I am trying to re-create my BOMain.key on the Unix side is because when I am trying to use my exisiting BOMain.key from my NT installations (bringing up the BO end-user module) I am getting the same message: Cannot access network layer with Details: Cannot initialize the table pointers of the driver function: Sybase unix 0.

Please, is there any one out there with the above environment that can shed some light on the problem? Are there any other environemnt variables that are needed to point BO to the network layer? Please, help.

Thanks,
Isaac

  • Cannot access network layer

This indicates that for the Sybase client in not in path for the login you are using. We solved this by using a script to launch any BO executable. The script ensured that the client was available.
