Hyperion Software

Has anybody ever used Hyperion software? It is a competitor of BusinessObjects which also contains reporting capabilities and Web access to reports (i.e. WebIntelligence). If you have used the software, how does it compare to BO?

Which product do you want more info on? Depending upon which of Hyperion’s products you are talking about it may not be considered a BO competitor.

Hyperion is an excellent consolidation package. But the reporting is much more geared to standard financial reports which are produced month after month. It’s ad hoc capabilities are more limited. There is something called “Retrieve Hyperion” which uses an Excel add-in, and it works nicely if you want to produce the same report format, but just change one parameter, ie, the chart of account name you are reporting or analyzing.

I would not consider these two packages competitors, but complements to each other. Our Controllers’ department uses Hyperion to collect and consolidate, and then we (Analysis and Planning) extract the data into an Oracle database (it is only one of multiple sources of data) and use BusObj for reporting and querying. Controllers uses Hyperion for their monthly GAAP reporting.

We currently do not use any Web functionality in either case.

Hope that helps.

We are using Bus Obj on top of Essbase (Formerly Arbor, now a Hyperion company) with good success.

Have not implemented any other Hyperion products.

Hello all, is it possible (in an easy way) to convert hyperion reports to b.o?
Can we just pick up the sql/connect to and format again or is there an easier way or is it " simply" build all over again…

Thanks,

Ferdy
