How to transfer universes/documents from development to re

Hello, dear listeners.

I’m in big trouble.

We have two security domain. One is our development and testing domain in our company. Second, This is ‘real’ security domain in customer’s company. How I can transfer all universes and documents to ‘real’ domain?

I create second security domain in our company. And some problems appeares! First of all, universes loses connection. Second, none of report can work properly in new security domain.

I need help ASAP. Thanks, and best wishes, Aleksejs.

Have you tried creating a connection at the customer site with the same connection parameters used in your development world? Then, export that universe to the customer’s repository and try refreshing the reports.

And once you do that, Point your reports to the new Universe and they should run. You can point them from the data cube box under definitions.

Hi Aleksejs,
First you need to create the ODBC Data Source at the client site, or know the name of the existing one.
In Designer you need to change the connection to point to that ODBC Data Source. Finally you need to export that Universe with this connection definition to the repository.
When you run the reports make sure that the local client has the same ODBC setup. The reports look for the Universe, and the Universe takes the connection information and looks for the corresponding ODBC source. I hope this helps,
Simon

I got this from BO a while ago.

This is the solution to the problem of moving reports from 1 repository to another

  1. Open the local copy of the universe in Designer, located in the \Universe\Universe folder.
  2. Select File > Parameters and create a shared connection. 3. Assign the shared connection to the local universe. 4. Select File > Save As and check Save for All Users. GIVE IT A NEW NAME. 5. Open the report in BusinessObjects and click Data > View Data > universe

[…]

  1. Assign the report to the local universe. Note: It will be the one without a domain specified, and will have a dot to the right. 7. Refresh and select File > Save As. Check Save for All Users. 8. Log out of BusinessObjects.
  2. Log back into BusinessObjects with a user from repository #2. 10. Select Data > View Data > universe > […] 11. Assign the report to the universe to a universe domain in repository #2. 11. The report should now refresh correctly against the universe in repository #2.

Steve or anyone:

What about migrating WebI reports to another (production) repository? Does anyone know how that can be done?

I don’t think there is a way to migrate WebI reports.

The only thought I’ve had is to save the reports as Personal documetns, But they would still have the problem of being tied to univers ids that don’t exist in your other repository.
What about migrating WebI reports to another (production) repository? Does anyone know how that can be done?

It can be done, but it’s not pretty…

You can hexedit the .wqy files, and it seems to work. you need to find to universe id from the repository of the current and the destination, translate both into hex… if you look in the report file, you will see the universe name and the current id (in hex)… if you catch ALL the occurences of this, change them to the new universe, it will work…

Maybe try HexEdit, found it on the web. It has a search function that was very helpful.

Good luck,
Brent
