How to migrate a security domain/repository from BO 4.1.3

Hi everybody,

I have set up many groups/users under BO 4.1.3 for our development and production environment. My BO 4.1.3 repository was set up in Oracle 7 under an user name called BO4_Repos. I have recently installed BO5 and would like to migrate the groups/users from the previous BO4 setup. I have created a separate account (BO5_Repos) under the same Oracle 7 database. What is the safest/easiest way to upgrade a BO4 repository to a new BO5 repository. I need to have both BO4 and BO5 repositories running in parallel for at least a couple of months. TIA.

Cindy

I was trying to do the same thing but with WebIntelligence running and using the same repository it cannot be done.

There is an export/import option to the security module that will move the security domain but there are many new options in the 5.0 security module that this didn’t work very nicely. Then you have to move all the universes, documents, etc…you get the picture…too many steps to make a mistake.

The easiest way to do it is to follow the instructions for upgrading the repository that currently exists. We did a lot of testing to make sure both repositories return the same information and founding nothing to be wrong.

Basically the conversion is painless. If you need the old repository have your DBA back it up in case it needs to be recovered. Make sure you are doing the migration with 2.51/5.01 since it contains a fix that doesn’t change the universe number causing reports to not run.

Where can I find information on how to upgrade the current repository??? Thanks. Cindy

Cindy,

I’m not sure whether or not you received a response to this, so here’s my 2 cents:

In my case, we were in the process of moving from a test database server to a production box. I was lucky enough to have a seperate (Oracle v.8) test instance. I ran the upgrade on the test repository first (copy your v.4 bomain.key to the v.5 LocData folder, Log into Supervisor as the user that created the v.4 repository & follow the instructions – had to figure that out since it’s not documented anywhere that I’ve been able to find). I subsequently upgraded the production repository.

From the User/Designer perspective, we’re not experiencing any problems.
However, I’m now having trouble creating additional Universe & Document domains. That was something I’d forgotten to test…

Good Luck,
