A “chasm” is a deep valley between two mountains. It’s something that you can’t cross.
A chasm trap in a universe is a many >- one -< many cardinality. You can’t cross that relationship and get a valid result. So in both cases a chasm is something that you can’t cross.
I pronounce it as Ka-zum. I suppose the other way may be valid as well.

The online Merriam-Webster dictionaries pronounces it:
'ka-z&m

That was wonderful to know.
I hope you can also tell me how FAN trap derived its name.

Also from the cardinalities.
A -< B -< C -< D
Each table further away from “A” gets more and more rows. It’s like spreading out a fan, the further away from the handle you get the wider the fan gets.
A -< B -< C -< D
-< B -< C -< D
-< C -< D
-< D
