Enable the save as excel option in Supervisor

I’m in the process of setting default options for our Infoview users who will be just refreshing FC BO reports. They will need to be able to save some of the reports in Excel format to their local disk for further analysis. When I log in as myself (Gensup) I run the report and when i click save i get the option of saving as excel to local disk. If i log in as a test user within the user group it doesn’t give me this option.

In the command restrictions dialogue for Webintelligence the obvious one is ‘Generate in Excel Format’ but this doesn’t seem to have any effect and all the others don’t seem related. Could somebody point me to the correct option to enable this feature please?

That sure seems like the right one. Make sure you log off and try it. Rights are not that dynamic.

Also, if you are testing this via WebI, you have to wait until the LoginServer refreshes.

I’ve logged off and waited the necessary 10 minutes for the refresh and yet the option doesn’t appear. I’m wondering if it’s dependant on another setting under BO rather than Webi/Infoview specific.

I’m going to create a new general user under our default group and try restricting permissions on likely culprits until it disappears.

If anyone else has any input i’d be glad to hear it.

OK, I think I have it…

The option to ‘Download BusinessObjects Documents’ needs to be enabled. However this then allows users to save either as PDF, Excel (if they’re enabled) and as .rep

You can remove the Excel and PDF by disabling ‘Generate in Excel’ and ‘Generate in PDF’ but you’re always stuck with save as .rep

If you remove the ‘Download BusinessObjects Documents’ you lose the option to do any of it.

This is slightly annoying because we need users to be able to save report outputs to excel for their own analysis but we don’t want lots of BO reports laying about the place. I can almost hear the calls now…‘I downloaded the report but now i can’t open it’. You know how it is, if it’s there people will click it!!

I have the same problem now. Business users want to be able to save reports in Webi 6.5. I enabled “Generate in Excel Format”, but one user who is in mulitple groups, is still unable to see it. I waited for 10 minutes until Webi Server is refreshed. I wonder if there is any other proper way of doing this instead of giving users the option to “Donwload BusinessObjects Documents”.

Thanks very much.
