Hi,
Our Webi and BCA are installed on Win NT machine.
They were working since last 2 years.
when we tried to login thru Infoview, it was prompting for login dialogbox, instead giving an error “The page is empty (WI0100)”.
When I tried login BCA Administrator, it was throwing an error
“Dr. Watson for Windows NT
An application error has occured and an application log is being generated
WIStorageManage.exe
Exception: access violation(oxc0000005), Address:0x0042ec11”
I checked that IIS and Webi servers are up.
Could any one please help me.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi,
some more input:
I checked BCA, where one of the WIStorageManager component is not defined with parameters but the status of module is enabled.
Did any one face this kind of problem b4?
Try this thread which discusses a similar problem - the resolution isn’t clear though. I would start with restarting your server via the admin panel to see if that is enough to fix it.
Thanks Nick.
It seems the previous solution do not talk much about solution.
I connect to User network through VPN connection from my machine. I use Remote Admin software to log on to the Business Objects (Enterprise products) server. It may not be possible to you to log on to my network?
I will greatly appreciate your suggestion on this solution. I need to correct this problem and make available (Webi) to the end users as soon as early.
Is that input enough for you to understand the problem?
thanks
venki
Hi Nick,
I have restarted BO server (WinNT) 2 times, still Webi is not working. And still prompting the “Dr. Watson error” while getting into BCA Administrator.
Could any one plz suggest the solution
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Also – and this is a typical “obvious” question – has ANYTHING else changed recently? Service Pack? Something else installed? Did any login have a password change? Etc…
Thanks Anita. Recently, Oracle was reinstalled on that particular machine.
To Anand’s reply: I have been able to restart the service “WebIntelligence Manager & WebIntelligence Orb” from services. While restarting the service the same error "Dr. Watson " etc… error was prompting till the service is up. The Webi icon shows that “Webi is started”
Infoview is not displaying login dialogbox? and No response after entering the login details from BCA administrator. IIS server is running well.
Out of interest where is your wistorage folder located? Here we have our’s on another server (identified by the WISTORAGE environment variable) and I do seem to remember Webi can’t get going if it can’t connect to that location due to network/permissions problems. I have a feeling that Webi just doesn’t start rather than seem to start and give an error - so I don’t know that this will be your problem.
Someone mentioned NT event logs - it’s important to look there for any obvious things (the error may not be a BO one so cast your net wide - for instance can NT authenticate the webi services logon ok). Also remotely connect to the server, start task manager and watch the wixxxx processes start - is it just wistorage manager that has a problem? Consider setting up server_diag traces for the wistoragemanger (instructions are in the webi admin manual I think) - you might get a lead from there. If it really is wistorage manager with the problem then it’s difficult to see that the Oracle middleware would be the root of this - did webi ever work with the new middleware? Can you logon to BusinessObjects full-client from the server ok - if so the middleware and bomain.key should be ok.
Is this still an issue? Have you found an answer yet?
If not, I’m curious - we had a similar issue a while back…
Does it run for a while before you lose wistoragemanager? does it just not come back up?
If it doesn’t start, have you run into permissions issues, path (really) issues as to were WISTORAGE is trying to write to? Have you run disk utilities to check that drive? Even an NT chkdsk on reboot??
If it runs a while and then dies, there is something we found that makes it fail - assigning / creating / editing Personal Categories. We found that under an earlier release of Webi (you said 2 years running, are you updating?), users could break Webi simply thru maintaining their personal categories.
Webi has fixed this since, but if you’re version is over a year old, you may want to try ‘breaking’ it by doing some category manipulation of your personal docs while watching the server. If that happens, just do an upgrade (of at least the server).
Good luck, and post where you’re at, what you’ve found.
