Disappearing Macros when moving report to XP

I have a user who just got a new PC (XP). He moved his .rep files to the new PC but doesn’t see his macros anymore.

I had him send me the report and I get the message asking if I want to enable or disable macros when I open the report (he does not) and I can see the macro (TOOLS >> MACRO); he does not.

What is he missing?

Thanks!

Could it be that the install of BO hasn’t included VBA, so there isn’t anything to view the macro with? Perhaps a quick deinstall and reinstall…if he signs on as you on his PC can he see the macro? If he signs on to another PC can he see the macro?

But he can create a new macro so that seems to imply that VBA is included.

Okay, fine - you didn’t mention that before! What about the other things I mentioned?

Isn’t it possible he stored his macros in a different directory than his documents – and forgot to copy the macros over?

Do you copy the Maroc files to your new PC?

The macros are stored inside the report.

Did you ever find any resolution to this? I too am having this same problem. A report that we have built with a macro works fine on our Windows 2K machines but the macros are not appearing on the XP machines.

Any input would be great. Thanks.

I think I am closing to resolving this problem.

I ran the report from a machine where I have PC administrative rights and it works correctly. I ran the report from a machine where I do NOT have PC administrative rights and it does not. Perhaps the macro will only work if I’m a PC admin? Any thoughts?

If you haven’t resolved this already here is what we found:

the .rep files had the read only bit set on his PC.

The user can fix this themselves by doing this:

Right click on the UserDocs folder and select properties. Uncheck the read only box and click OK. He will be asked whether to apply to just the folder or to all objects (subfolders and files) in the folder. Choose the all objects option and click OK.

The problem that the user is still having is that he insists that on his old machine (windows 200 Bo 5.1.4) he could record macros. On his new machine (XP BO 5.1.5) this option doesn’t show up although it is available in Excel.

I don’t have this option either and I’ve talked to him a few times and he is certain that it was available.

I haven’t found an answer to this yet.

I’ve only been around since 5.1.3, but from that version through 6.5, there has never been a record macro function.
