Disabling Option button in webi6.1a

webi6.1a,win2k, oracle 9
Is it possible to remove the access to the options button completely via supervisor ? We have a read only user who can run and save as excel a number of canned webi reports and thats all. We do not want them to be able to change any options as we want the list expanded so they can see the description but we do not want them changing anything as this is a generic company wide user, with no pw set.
Any ideas ?

Thanks

There is no way in Supervisor to turn off the Options button. If all you’re using that ID for is to open reports and save them as Excel files, why not have BCA do that for you?

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the reply, what I wanted is for the users to run/refresh reports via webi as normal but have the ability to download to excel if required. I know that if you give them something to click they probably will so wanted to remove as much functionality as possible to simplify the interface (thus help reduce support calls).

Thanks

p.s. we do not have bca setup

I believe that you would have to use the Webi SDK to accomplish this.

I’m not so sure of this, sorry!

In my workgroup I have the profile of “simple user” and of “Supervisor/Designer”.

The account of “simple user” cannot see the “Options button”.

The reason is that “simple user” represents actually a GROUP of about 30-40 real persons, so if every one can modify the options, they’ll pass all the day to modify them: every user has its personal preferences!

I don’t know HOW TO, but I’m sure that a simple user can be disabled to modify options by the General Supervisor.

OK, you got my curiosity up, so I logged into Supervisor as a General Supervisor, and snooped around. First of all, there is no profile defined as “simple user”. So I’m not sure what you mean by that. Second, there is no option under the WebIntelligence Command Restrictions to turn off the options button. You can disable some options, like skins, but you cannot hide the options button.

I was wondering if you were successful in finding the correct file(s) in order to disable the Options button.
I am working on this similar issue and trying to remove all of these access types from the users.

Thanks.
