differences in security between XI2.0 and XI3.1

Hi,

We are currently on BO XI2.0 and are planning an upgrade to BO XI 3.1. I have just been reading about the security in BO XI 3.1 and I am a bit confused. Has the security been changed or is it just the management of the security ?

You will find few changes in XI 3.1 with respect to security (have a look at the whats new in XI 3.1)
For instance, the custom access levels (similar to 5x/6x supervisor)
And if you are using a closed system approach for root folders in XIr2, that may not carry to XI 3.1 as is. Some tweaks will be required for root folder
However setting security is much better & flexible in XI 3.1 compared to XIr2

If you haven’t already, take a look at this presentation … XI 3.0 Security for Mere Mortals. It specifically covers taking advantage of the new security features of XI 3.x.

Basically, you can keep your XIr2 model in place with XI 3.x. It will work pretty much the same. That said, you may want to consider implementing some of the new features of XI 3.x as an “investment” toward much easier maintenance.
