difference between XIR2 and XIR3

Hi can any one explain what is the difference between XIR2 and XIR3

First of all, there is no such thing as XIR3. SAP had changed the naming convention for the XIR2 successor to XI 3.x. It is because R/3 is the name of another SAP product. To avoid confusion, the 3rd major release of XI was called XI 3.x.

Off the top of my head, the major change is security. There are more granularity and object rights are inherited differently. They also introduced the LifeCycle Manager for change management. Also, I noticed myself that some functionality had changed. For example, the Rank function is different in XI 3.1 as compared to XIR2.

You should do a search on BOB. This topic has been discussed in great details on several threads.
