Design Studio basics

Finally got Design Studio on this pc, so thought I’d have a little play…

So I create a new “Application”. How do I get my data? Googling suggests I need to add a Data Source but I have no connections - how do I set up a connection? I want to grab my data from a UNX universe I’ve just created. At the moment it’s not asking me to log on to the BOE platform at all.

It’s not exactly intuitive this product, is it?

Yes- the first step is really the critical part here and not obvious, but the product itself is good for what it does - i.e present pre-formatted, pre-calculated data.

Here’s what you need to do for unx connections :

Yeah - I just found that! Searching for the wrong text strings…

BUT I still can’t get in. I’m not getting the option to log in via AD authentication and so the OK box is greyed out. Web service URL looks good (and I’ve used it before), but how do I get the logon box to give me an AD logon?

Debbie

ETA: Actually the url is currently literally shown as http://:/dswsbobje/services/Session. Replaced with correct values - it let me log in - and I now get a message:
The Analysis Application Service is not installed on the BI platform. Connecting to this BI platform is not possible.

Setting up AD for Design Studio is a separate process than the rest of BOW. The dswsbobje application needs to be AD enabled and the SapDesignStudio.ini on your client pc needs to have the right kerberos file pointers e.g

-Djava.security.auth.login.config=c:\windows\bscLogin.conf
-Djava.security.krb5.conf=c:\windows\krb5.ini

If i get a reference post i’ll send it across. I had a tough time getting it to work properly though (the first time) as I have a deep forest of AD domains.

p.s : Assuming that you have the Design Studio for BIPlatform server component and the services up and running. Its a separate server install as a prerequisite for using DS on BI Platform. Thats the error you are getting i see.

Thanks for that. I’ll pass that to my tech experts as most of it went completely over my head!

My mistake - I cant understand what i wrote myself. Was ultra-multitasking at work.
In short - There is a DS server install that needs to be done first before you can use DS with BI platform. Its not exclusively a BO product. After that - the AD setup needs to be completed correctly for DS product.

Yep, and the same holds true for Lumira: You must install an additional (Server) Add-On for DesignStudio, respective for Lumira on the SAP BI BusObjects Server(s)!

Do not forget, that likely you willl require a new sizing excercise for your platform, meaning boost your SAP BI BusObjects Servers with more RAM and CPUs.

Patching in the future means: patching the SAP BI BusObjects platform AND then patching the (Server) Add-On (DesignStudio and/or Lumira) as well on the SAP BI BusObjects platform!

@ Shobhit

Success! After much messing around server-side, my techie got it all installed and I can now long into the BI platform and see my universe!

Many thanks for your help. Just got to figure out the next step…

Useful information, thanks, but I won’t be holding my breath there!
