I’m sure we were discussing this recently but I couldn’t find the particular thread.
Traditionally we (and I think most people) have always been licenced to have access to two database types, via the Data Access component of BO setup. I’m sure I read really recently that this is now obsolete, so if you have a BO licence you should be allowed access to any and all databases, i.e. as well as Oracle and ODBC we’d be able to have (free!) access to Sybase, DB2 etc. Am I going mad? If not I need proof that I can take up with BO UK.
No, you’re not going mad (well, you might be, but you could raise that in Off Topic if you want ). We had a chat with our reseller and they sent out a new Data Access key to us. Not sure that it’s the proof that you’re after, but you are right.
We ended up with ALL data access when trying to straighten out XML licensing the first time thru. Not sure if that is policy tho. Now I just need to remember to be more selective when installing so I am not loading platforms I will never use.
Yes. To clarify, a very nice lady from BusinessObjects rang me back and said that if I was talking about version 5 then I would have to pay as per always. If I was talking about version 6, then yes I could have a key would would grant access to them all. I’ll see if we get OLAP as well!
A happy ending, I will be able to use this as another lever to get my manager to agree to an e6 upgrade. Look David, free access packs
