Create a URL to a Thread

How do you create a url to a thread, with the url linked to a word or phrase?

For example:

“See this thread.” The reader clicks on the word “this” and is sent to the url.

I’m disabling BBCode in this post so you can see.

If you want to post a BOB topic/individual post, you go to that one and copy it to your clipboard.

Then, here in the post box, you can type the text-to-be-seen and surround it with the BBCode for URLs: text-to-be-seen
You have to edit the “[url]” tag to give it the hyperlink to use:

text-to-be-seen

You can either:

1.) type the begin-tag and end-tag yourself, before and after the text-to-be-seen, or

2.) Click the URL button, then type the text-to-be-seen, then click the URL button again, or

3.) type the text-to-be-seen, and then highlight it, and then click the URL button – it will surround the highlighted text with both the begin-tag and the end-tag.

Thes time, I’m enabling BBCode in this post (by making sure there’s no checkmark in “Disable BBCode in this post”), and the rest is identical.

I have a question related to this thread: How can I create a link DIRECTLY to a particular posting reply?

For example, I’d like to do something like this…

…and have it go directly to my (“cjweis”) reply. Is there some querystring parameter I can use (instead of the fake “replyid” I made up)?

Thanks!
Chris

Hey Chris.

Great question!!

When you are looking at a post, there is a little icon on the top on the left. It’s right next to the “Posted: Tue Nov 23, 2004 5:01 pm”.

Click that little icon and the URL in your address bar will give you EXACTLY what you are looking for.

You rock Steve! Thanks!

Alternatively what I do is right-click on the icon that Steve mentioned and use the Copy Shortcut option. Then I can paste that information into the post that I am working on. For example…

How can you keep a BusinessObjects consultant entertained for hours?

Cool, nothing but continuous improvement here at BOB!

Ah, that’s always been there. You (and probably most of the other 7,000 members) just didn’t know it at the time. 8)

I was referring to your improvement on Steve’s solution

cjweis (BOB member since 2003-10-02)

I didn’t know you could do that. Wow!

Steve Krandel :us: (BOB member since 2002-06-25)

I smell sarcasm…

cjweis (BOB member since 2003-10-02)

No. Actually, I didn’t know you could do that. I’ll use it.
