I have a universe that I can export to the Universe Repository. But when I try to import it, I have the message “could not import the universe”.
I tried to delete the universe from the repository and to export it again, but the problem comes again. I also tried to delete the Universe Repository and to create it again. No success.
I have found that if you log into Supervisor using the General Supervisor account, and then delete the universe from the repository, it will solve this problem. The cause of the problem is likely that the universe ID, which is stored internally in the .unv file on the local machine and in one of the repository’s database tables, has gotten out of sync. By deleting the universe from the repository, you will then be able to export your local copy and the ID’s will again be in sync.
The downside is that your users will probably have to import the universe again - a problem if you have a lot of users.
I used to deal with some universes and reports out of OLAP environment. Due to certain circumstances, I had to create a universe locally on my machine with secured connecttion on OLTP. I exported the Universe to the repository(it went fine) and am able to run some reports on this universe…
BUT, I am not able to import the Universe…Nobody else has locked it…Whenever I try to import the Universe, I get a message ‘Could not import the universe’.
Later, I realised that I am able to run report on my machine only due to the local universe.
For creating the universe and report, I had used the same user-id.
How can I import my universe?
What had gone wrong or I missed something…
Thanks & Regards,
jay

By any chance do you have designer and the univese open on your machine at the same time you’re trying to import? If so, it can’t overwrite the file because you have it open.

**HELLO to all of you that I met/saw again at the conference - it’s nice to put faces to names - wish I was still there though - it’s darn cold and windy here - about 35 degrees and 30 mile an hour winds since I got back!
No, this is not the case, Julie…
Just opening the designer interphase and trying to import this Universe is giving the message ‘Could not import the Universe’…
In some case which you are mentioning, I think one always gets a message as to close the universe file at first and then import…

I am also not sure as to what goes wrong… just that I too had experienced this problem a couple of times in the past and the trick worked. Maybe some of our Guru’s would be able to explain …
We have made it a standard to delete any universe copies from the harddrive prior to importing from the repository.
We have also learned that deleting universes from the web servers prior to exporting a new iteration of an existing universe is advisable. Occasionally the universe versions on multiple servers will get of synch.
Currently i am working with BO 6.5 version. when i am trying to import my universe in my test region. It is throwing error.
Error1 : Could not import the universe.
Error2: Could not export the universe.
I have deleted my local copy of universe. in my c:\program files\Business objects 6.5\universes
But its still not working. can you please help me regarding this.
Should i delete a Test universe in my BO 6.5 Supervisor.
And recently our users around 300 people are facing timed out issues. And scheduled BCA reports are failing.
We are using SQL Database for our project. This Database is supported by IBM.
We will support only admin i.e (supervisor) level things.
The problem is related to SQL or i need to change any settings in Designer.
I guess the problem is with disk space issue.
“Previously we never faced this” can you help me please. Thanks for your time.
