BusinessObjects Board

Copy 6.5 Repository to Oracle

We have been asked to copy our current Business Objects 6.5 repository database from UDB to Oracle. Is there a White Paper describing this process? Any other recommended resources on this topic for us?

thanks,
Penny

Copy?
you want the repository to be moved to a new database in Oracle.
As we do in upgradation I think

  1. Tou need to create the repository in Oracle
2)Publish the universes and reports to the new repository

also please check:I remember we have a component in 6.5 for carrying out this task.

I would suggest you should create a new 6.5 repository in Oracle and migrate All the USERS, Universes, and Reports.

Follow these steps:
a) Create a new 6.5 repository
b) Export all the users from UDB in a text file, Import in 6.5 oracle rep using Supervisor.
c) Save Universes for all users first, and export it to 6.5 oracle rep
d) Save reports and export it to 6.5 oracle rep

The New BOMAIN key has to be on all your WEBI servers, BCA servers and all FC machines.

If your total # of reports are more, then you can search for a utility in this forum, where you can keep all your reports in a directory and run that utility, it will transfer all your reports to Corp rep 6.5 oracle.

Hope this helps.

Moving a repository is fairly straightforward if you are methodical and organized.

Hi Judy,

The link given decsribes way to transfer repository.
But is it possible across the databases?.. here the discussion is
the repsoirory to be moved from UDB to Oracle.

Thanks

Raju,

Yes, it’s possible to go across databases like that. I had to move a repository once from Sybase to Oracle. I had the DBA dump the contents of the tables in Sybase, and load the contents into the Oracle database. It worked well.

Hi,

Yes, even if you are moving across DBMS types, as long as you have the proper SQL statements to insert rows into the new database, you would just follow the same steps.

The repository is just a database.
