I am currently running BO4.1.2. I recently moved from a PC running NT3.51 and Office95 to a new PC running NT4 and Office97. On my old machine I was able to use txt and xls files as personal data files. On my new PC I get a CDaoException when I try to run the same queries. BO Tech Support suggested reinstalling the ODBC drivers and reinstalling BO but I am still getting the error.
Has anyone had this problem or know how to resolve it?

The difference could be that BO v4.1.x is compatible with Excel95 format and not Excel97. If your Excel files are saved in ‘Microsoft Excel 97 & 5.0/95 Workbook’ or ‘Microsoft Excel 5.0/95 Workbook’ format, it should work.
George, thanks for the suggestion, but that was the first thing I thought of. The xls file was in Excel5.0/95 format, copied directly from my old PC. Also, it does not explain why I get the error for a plain “vanilla” tab delimited txt file.
