BOE Xi R2 Rights Error

I am getting a time out error when clicking on the rights tab in CMC.
I have noticed that the CMS.exe is doing IO until the page times out.
The rest of the tabs in the .Net site are working and I am able to see the schedules and history but I am not able to update the rights on any reports using the CMC. I have tested on several machines. The Java version gives same results.

I also noticed if I attempt to update the limits the same time out happens.

Being pointed in the right direction would be great,
TG

I haven’t seen that specific problem, but try increasing the timeout. See this thread.

Hi Joe,
Yes we did that and all it did was take longer…
if I attempt to use any of the buttons on the rights page the issue
happens.
I ran a couple of jobs to rebuild the indexes and update the statistics
on the CMS and AUDIT databases.

I am not sure what could be the issue database or number of instances?
I also checked the repository to be sure we are not running out of space
and that seems fine. The List of functions below all return a timeout error?

javascript:addremove()
javascript:checkuserrights()
javascript:refresh()

I changed the timeout from 9 to 12 testing now with same result.

The system has 13320 objects on the system.

I’d suggest bumping it up much higher – an hour or more, if possible. At least then you’ll know how long it’s really running for.

If you have the capability to monitor active database sessions, I would suggest doing so. That will tell you if the problem is because of an optimization issue in the database vs. BO itself.

Hi Joe,
Do you believe the number of report objects 13,320 could be part
of the issue? We have many reports that are no longer being used.
Should I begin saving off the reports that are no longer needed to
another file location using crystal designer?

Thanks,
TerryG.

It would depend on the system resources available, but we had well over 50,000 objects in our XIr2 system.

Hi Joe,
We have a Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 SP1
CPU 3.20GHz
2.00 GB RAM

Thanks,
TerryG.

That’s not a whole lot of RAM, and may be your issue. I would check the server resources.

I am cleaning up the old and unneeded reports and instances and the system now allows me to see the rights of a few different objects.
I can see the Inbox and folder rights, I am still not able to see the report rights. Once I clean up as many old reports and instances as possible I will then run the Prune on the input and output from the repository and then run the rebuild of the indexes again.

We are going to try to virtualize the server and give it more resources.

Thanks,
TerryG.

Make sure your license allows for that.

And, it’s worth mentioning, XIr2 has been unsupported for several years now. You should consider a newer version if you’re still under maintenance.

I am working with our infrastructure group for this and I will update when we know if we are able virtualize this server or not.

The plan is to P2V this server and give the database and application more resources.
