BO v12...What, when and anything else forthcoming?

I’ve seen a couple of mentions of BO12 in threads about E6.5 and just wondered if anyone had any rumors or just plain lies about it!! :slight_smile: How about a guess at release date…

Please feel free to correct any of my misguided assumptions…

From what i can gather:

It's getting the version number from Crystal due to some sort of integration with the product.

It will be the next version to have any new features for FC

There may be a web version of Supervisor.

Is the intention to make Webi the primary product or will FC always have it’s place?

Well, Full Client Reporter v6.5 introduced horizontal bar charts, so who knows if they will throw in more goodie(s) for Full Client in v11 etc.

I would say the direction is Web products in general. Will Full Client ever ever go away? Too much speculation and too far out (timewise) IMHO

I’d say that for Designer and Supervisor, a web solution would take too much development work on BusinessObjects’ behalf. Creating test ODBCs and Universes and that sort of thing would be a nightmare to control (I would expect). If they can make WEBI as complete as FC Reporter is, then there is no reason why not.
ZABO is nearly there (freehand SQL I believe is one of a tiny number of dificiencies) in terms of eqaulling FC, so ZABO may be a more useful replacement to FC than WEBI is for the foreseeable future. The only question is, what would be minimum spec for everyone on ZABO rather than full client when you have month end and the whole accounts team giving the Data Warehouse a good hammering?

So there’s a v11 due out first is there? You’re not keeping anything to yourself here are you Andreas?? suspicious :wink:

Business Objects v11 is geared toward total integration with Crystal, see this official roadmap from Business Objects for details.

BO 11 is not intended for BO Classic customers. It is a release that starts the integration of the product line. It will have a server (based on Crystal Enterprise). The portal will display both BO and Crystal documents. Ad Hoc will be done via WebIntelligence. There will be NO full-client available in BO 11. I believe this is slated for the end of 2004.

BO 6.x will exist in parallel.

BO 12 will be the real merging of the product lines in a common platform. There will be a BO client, but my understanding is that it will be the same as in 6.5. We’ve heard that 6.5 will be the last feature release for the client. BO 12 will contain WebI that has functional parity with full-client. (If this is true, there will be no need for ZABO). BO 12 will also contain Crystal Reports for enterprise report authoring. BO 12 will have a server based on the Crystal architecture. I believe this is slated for the end of 2005.

As you know dates are based on alot of things, so it’s difficult to be sure.
