BO Tool

Hi,

I am using BO XIR3

we would like to consider if there is a Tool in BO which we could use to capture the data from the DB/Universes in one consolidated document.
The tool would need to be able to:
• Extract the Metric/Object Description
• Extract the SQL for the Metric
• Identify which reports the Metric/Object is used in
• A Date/Change Control log on when the Object was updated/Added
• We would ideally like to be able to also hold a Business Definition of the metric, so we can store all information in one place

Hi Ab,

Nothing within BO itself, though some elements could be met. For example Universe documentation can be done through Designer by saving as a PDF file.

It terms of “free” tools take a look in the BOB downloads section, and in particular the Repository Documentor

The attached spreadsheet for SAP BI (BO 4) will retrieve information about the object (Reports, Universes, Connections, Categories, QaaWS and disk usage) in the SAP BI environment. It will also provide information as to which reports use a specific universe and which reports may be affected by a universe change too - as returned when querying via the query builder. Fully automated documentation may not meet your requirements, so you might also consider a combination of the above and manual updates by developers.

I think MetaData Manager may meet most of your requirements. I’m not sure about the licensing arrangement for 3.1 so you’d have to talk to your account exec.
In version 4 MetaData Manager has been bundled into the Information Steward product.
