Hi All

I am into oracle coding and administration and would like to learn datawarehousing and BO development and work on it. Could some one suggest me how to go about it and what books I need to learn to get familiarized with concepts. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to B:bob:B!

Apart from what suggested by Mike, Get BO product guides from here. Buy Cindi Howson’s book on BO XI complete reference.

Thanks Mike and Jansi, the info was very helpful. For BO development what are the components I need to read/practice. I am searching through SAP BO website and I find a few documentation related to infoview, webintelligence,BODI & CMC…I would like to know what are the essential components I need to know to become a BO developer. Also I am found there are BOXI R2 and BOXI 3.0 version. Which version to start? Can you provide me some info regarding certification as well please?

You need to be familiar with the tools(WebI, DeskI, Universe Designer etc), SQL, Database concepts etc.

Start with the latest - XI 3.x

Best wold be to go for an official training, if you can afford.

I agree with zack. If you can take the instructor-led training classes, that is a great way to learn. And of course, the best way is still on-the-job training. You can work on eFashion all you want, but there is no substitution to real life working experience.

Cindy’s books are great. But the problem is that it usually takes her a very long time to publish the book on any new version of BusinessObjects such that it becomes old news. It will be more useful if her books can come out about the same time the new version is released. But of course, that means she needs to be on the beta testing to get the first hand knowledge, instead of finding out after the fact.
