We have a few users running version 4.1.5 and version 5.0.1 on the same PC. They want to have the .REP files associated with BO 4, but BO 5 appears to change the file associations every time it is run, so that the association is with BO5 rather than BO4.
Anyone any ideas how to stop this?

You will have to change the registry setting (either using REGEDIT or by the Explorer options).
On Explorer: select “View/Options” from the menu, Click on the “File Types” tab, select “Business Objects Document” from the list and click “Edit …”. For each of the actions listed (there should be Open, Print and Printto) you will need to select the action, and again click “Edit …”. Change the filename in the text box that reads “Application used to perform action” - change this to point to the V4 .exe instead of the V5 one. Ensure that you retain the /dde at the end of the string.
OR (more simply, but rather more dangerously - Ie. only do this if you understand what you are doing)
Run Regedit.exe to change the following entry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/.REP/Default
to the “BusinessObjects.Document.4” instead of “BusinessObjects.Document.5”.

After doing this, then running BO 5, the association gets set back to BO5 again!!!

Hmmn, Yes it does! Quite an unfriendly thing for BO to do I woulld think that breaks a Microsoft User Interface standard. Probably should be reported
Ok then you will need to go the Regedit route. That doesn’t re-set it on my machine.
After doing this, then running BO 5, the association gets set
back to BO5
again!!!
