Kenny,
The best source I’ve found so far is the Broadcast Agent Administrators Guide that comes with the software.

I am getting a “could not import universe” in BCA. Can run from desktop outside of BCA. Other universes ok. Any Ideas?

I had this problem and it is due to the uni file being locked on the BCA server and a newer version in the repository - what is happening is that BCA is trying to import the newer version but can’t overwrite the version on the BCA server. To resolve this, navigate to the universe folder on the server and delete the universe in question. If NT won’t let you do this due to the file being locked, stop all of the WEBI/BCA services and try again.
Once deleted, BCA will successfully import the universe rom the repository and everything should be fine.

We are upgrading BO to 5.02 from 4.1… Since we run 24X7, with scheduled jobs we need BCA operating continuously. During testing, however, we found BCA does an auto shutdown and restart but does not reconnect to the server. So… the jobs do not run as scheduled. What settings are used for the restart process so that you do not have to reschedule the jobs and then manually reconnect to the server? We need this to occur automatically.

You can use at servicename -stop and at servicename - start to do this…
Check your services to be sure, but I think its wischedule (with full path)…
Good luck,
Brent
*have seen this described here better, couldn’t find a copy to send you…

We have Web Intelligence 2.5 and Broadcast Agent Server 5.0.3 running on the same NT server. We have a batch script scheduled to run at 5am in the morning which will stop the WI Manager and WIorb services andstart it again at 5.10am.
Batch scripts are scheduled to run using the ATcommand on the NT Server.
When I get into log I can see that these process was properly stopped and started back. But for some reasons all the jobs are failing after this. Later when I manually stop the services and start it back itworks fine.
Can someone help me with this problem. Am I stopping the right services or do I need to do something else. How do we automate the stop and start of BCA server.
Thanks for all your help in advance.
Venky.

Hello Listers,
Is there a way to change the parameters of a report that is in BCA. For eg, say there is a report that is scheduled to run every night. But during the way I come in and want to change the parameters so that those new parameters are fed into the BCA when it runs at night. Basically, if there is a file that the BCA will look at before it runs in order to get the parameter values?
Thanks!

i think the answer is yes -
if its a full client report, you could have it read your parameters file to get the values you want - there are a lot of postings here as to setting query values within a macro, just use that and a text read function…
is this what you are talking about, or do you want to change the schedule options…?

The only way to get BCA to look at a file for parameter values would be to include a script / add-in that does that for you. At least as far as I can tell.
When you send a job to BCA, any prompts (parameters) are filled in at that time. The values for those parameters are stored inside the document. At the time that BCA refreshes the document, it simply reuses those parameters. So if you want to change them, you must delete and reschedule the report.
Two options…
Make the parameters table driven. Build a table in your database with appropriate columns (report name, parameter name, parameter value come to mind) and then build your universe to reference those tables.
Create a VBA script that obtains parameters from an external source and plugs them in to the prompts.
Either would work, both have advantages and disadvantages. But I don’t think that BCA contains the ability to change prompt values on the fly.

Anyone ever install Broadcast Agent on a Windows 2000 box and when you try to logon to the Broadcast Agent Administrator it just disappears.
Never gives me the opportunity to log on. I already have one Broadcast Agent working with windows 2000 and it works great. Strange any ideas.

Shirley.

You may to unset your classpath if it’s set. Also, Pentium 4’s maybe cause this. I think a new java ( JRE v 1.1.8 ) should be installed for the P4’s.

Dear Collegues!
I need your input on the following subject. I had
request to schedule documents in BCA, which would
refresh the report and then publish to a particular
category on the corporate documents. This simple
request turned out to be impossible to fulfill when
scheduling the report from Full Client. Meanwhile
when I tried to do the same thing from WebI I had no
problem at all. Usually we are not surprised when
its the opposite, but being able to do something from
WebI and not from full client is very suspicious. Has
anyone had the same issue, is that a known bug?

The only time I’ve had a problem scheduling a report from Full Client, I
would click on File - Send to - Broadcast Agent, and nothing would happen.
Is that what happens to you? The problem would go away after I closed and
reoppened BO.

Did you get any error messages? Are you sure you have the publish right from
