And that is a controlled relase for now - meaning it is only available to already existing Business Objects customers.
The general release will follow a few months from now.

Looks like they now have increased WebI capability but not sure if it can do multiple dataproviders though. Also we can now access crystal reports through dashboard manager. but can we do this thro webI? …i dont think .
I would be most happy if they have fixed all of the infamous bugs in 6.1a.

It claims that you can have multiple DPs, but my understanding is that you can’t link them…
Correct, non-syncronized DP’s
Chris Pohl (BOB member since 2002-06-18)
V6.5 does have mutiple data providers, but they are not synchronized/linked.
WebI edit functionalities have been increased.
Full Client v6.5 offers horizontal bar charts.

I think I’d rather wait for a while before getting it. I dont want to rush through and have a tough time like I had when we started using 6.1a
tendulkar (BOB member since 2004-03-15)
Not exactly. What it really means is that only a few customers can have it. I don’t know what the number is, but the software is not for General Release. It’s more customers than a Beta release.
I’ve heard that General Release may be in 4 weeks.

… and moving from Reporter to General Discussion. Thanks. 8)

The software isnt there… but the new V65 PAR is up on the support site… Apache and Tomcat versions have been upgraded… going to start to do some planning…
Did I see that Broadcast Agent Publisher V6.5 is going to be on a Solaris box? thats good news for me if it is… need to get my stuff moved to production and want to keep it in unix on one cluster… Didnt like the thought of having to have a Windoz and Unix cluster in Production… one for Webi and one for Webi Broadcast Publisher.

Hi all
Check this:
http://www.businessobjects.com/news/press/press2004/20040701_bobj65_prod.asp
Search for “Availability”
You will find this text:
“BusinessObjects 6.5 is now shipping on Windows, and is expected to be generally available on all major platforms in Q3 2004.”
I’d say that the version should be available on ESD - at least for Windows?
jjensen (BOB member since 2002-12-12)
Welcome to Bob Given that Q3 started 5 days ago I think August or September would be more realistic . The second controlled release isn’t going out until the 15th of July - and that is not for the general public.
Nick Daniels (BOB member since 2002-08-15)
Hi again
It’s OK to be realistic, but you just can’t put text like “SAN JOSE, Calif. - July 1, 2004 - Business Objects, (Nasdaq: BOBJ Euronext Paris ISIN code FR0004026250-BOB), the world’s leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, today announced that BusinessObjects™ 6.5 is available and began shipping on June 28, 2004” without having the product ready for shipment (at the top of the same page as before)
Agree?
jjensen (BOB member since 2002-12-12)
Can’t? They can and they have. I don’t imagine it’s a million miles different from any other software vendor either.
Nick Daniels (BOB member since 2002-08-15)
It’s called marketing spin. The article doesn’t doesn’t say it’s generally available. It say it’s shipping, which is true. It’s not shipping to anyone who wants it, but it is shipping.
This is not an unusual practice at all.

Is it possible to insert drill filters in Webi reports in version 6.5?
I read what’s new 6.5 document. Nothing was mentioned about this .Any ideas?
BigV (BOB member since 2003-12-04)
Did anybody try it in the test environment…any problems or bugs …!!!
tendulkar (BOB member since 2004-03-15)
At least they changed the PAR to be more like the reality now
There is only a 6.5 RTM now. The GA is “under construction”
jjensen (BOB member since 2002-12-12)
Yes - you can insert a drill filter instead of having to drill your way all down to the relevant information.
Tried a beta - it seems faster and more stable than previous versions. Also, quite a few bugs have been fixed.
I am sure I going to recommend this version… that is when it is available for shipping to anyone who wants it
