BO XI Certification Questions

Hi All,

Can anyone give me the questionnaire for BO XI certification.

I am planning to give the certification but I dont have any idea about the type of questions being asked.
I tried to find it onthe forum but have not been able to find it.

Kindly help me out with it.

Sincerely,
Harshraj Sanghvi

The forum doesn’t offer specific information for certification. And, I would think that if someone has a copy of the certification questionnaire, that it would be unethical / illegal to share it.

Hi Anita,

But then if we say that this a BusinessObjects forum then we need to provide all sort of information on BusinessObjects let it be anything.

It has to cover everything which people want to know about BusinessObjects.

Sincerely,
Harshraj Sanghvi

Note that we do have a Rule against copyright infringement. I still think providing such a “questionnaire” would probably violate that rule.

I think the more important part is the unethical stuff. If I gave you the exam, you could cheat.

Steve Krandel :us: (BOB member since 2002-06-25)

I have not seen the exam myself (quite frankly, I don’t have that kind of time), but it is fair to assume that if you have been using/developing XI at work extensively on a daily basis, you should have no problem passing the exam.

When we post the exam questions, are you willing to pay for the lawyers when BusinessObjects decides to sue? If BusinessObjects were to post the exam questions on their site and release them under a public license then we would consider posting them here. That is not likely to happen. We do not post proprietary or confidential materials of any kind. That is the policy of this board today and it is not likely to change.

Is there a difference in the law regarding copyrights in other countries?

To me this just isn’t even an issue…you can’t take what isn’t yours and share it for any reason.

If I took the test and then supplied it to you, don’t you think we’d be competing for jobs? Why would I do that to myself??? Am I so nice that I’d just give you my paycheck? I don’t think so!!!

By asking the questionnaire I dont mean that we put up all the questions which are being asked in BO Xi certification.

To get an overview on the questions which are being asked in the exam atleast we can have few questions provided to us which gives us basic knowledge and difficulty level of the questions.

For eg: If we have 45 questions in the exam then atleast we can have 10-15 qustions which would give us an idea about the difficilty level of the exam.

I agree with you all with the copyright issues.

Since I have worked ectensively on BO 6.5.1 and not on XI thats the reason I am wanting to have an idea about the questions.

Thanks,
Harshraj Sanghvi

So, copyright issues aside, you are planning to be tested on something that you have neither been trained on or have never used…

I am with Mak on this one. I have recently been working on both 6.5 and XI and to be honest I wouldn’t fancy taking a test on XI yet. I just don’t think I have enough knowledge. I haven’t had any training in XI as we were mainly a BO only shop until very recently when we aquired an XI site.

If you go to the tech support guide you can download the XI user guides and go through them. I would say that the ‘questions’ for certification will be in there. If I was you I would wait until you had worked with it before taking a test. I speak a bit of German but would not sit a French test

That may be part of the issue as viewed by many, but it’s not the underlying question. Here is the critical issue as far as I see it…

BOB is not endorsed by or affiliated with BusinessObjects in any way. We try to make that as clear as possible. As such, we do not want to do anything to attract undue / unwanted attention from the corporate suits.

Yes we have built a successful user community about the products offerred by that company. Why so successful? Because many of the top participants over the years are willing to donate their time to help others get the most out of the products they have purchased. Now, why would they do that? Simply put: many of us (and I include myself) work for BusinessObjects consulting or training partners. So that’s two reasons to avoid confrontation with the main company… we don’t want to affect BOB and its continued existance, nor do we want to affect our own company’s relationship with them either. As a result, we will always be conservative when it comes to deciding what to allow or not to allow on this board.

Posting the certification exam questions will only happen if - as I previously stated - BusinessObjects posts them on their own web site with a proper public license.

There has been some discussion among the moderators about locking this topic; it will remain open for further opinions for now. I’m not sure how much further it can go, as the policy for this board is not going to change. But I think we should let folks get in their “last word” on the subject if they have something further to say.

Hi All,

I am clearing my point of view again.
I am not asking anyone to post the BO XI certification questions on the forum.

As far as giving the exam is concerned though I have not worked on BO XI. I have performed a POC on it and have been practicing it.
I think there is nothing wrong in giving a certification even though I have not extensively worked on it. Its a value addition for which I am opting.

I agree that practical experience would always give me an edge in clearing the exam.

All of you who have replied are Gurus of BO. I also thank the forum because over a year since I have been associated with BO I have received tremendous help from the forum.

I had not posted this question to create a controversy.
I hope everybody has taken it in the right way.

Thanks,
Harshraj Sanghvi

Dave - my comments from the perspective in your previous post…

Anything that may cause harm to this board is self destructive and that is the reason why it - the board - needs to be moderated… 8)

I have recently been looking at the Beta version of R2, for example, but you won’t find me posting anything about it, as it is a) Probably against the law and b) Could cause harm to the board…

I certainly would hate to rely on BO tech support - if they could cause Bob to close - the difficulty on searching the new Tech Support site is a case in point… :nonod:

I can’t ever see Business Objects posting interview questions to certification exams - It makes no sense…!!

To cap it all, I don’t mind helping people with problems, but I do resent trying to help people pass exams or certification…just my 10p worth  .

Mak 1 :uk: (BOB member since 2005-01-06)

I guess that wasn’t clear from your original post, then, where you asked:

Given the wording of your question it did seem, at least to me and apparently some others, that you were directly asking for the questions. My apologies if that was not the case, and thanks for clearing that up. Perhaps you were asking if there were any study guides available, like there are for other certification exams? If that is the case, I can say that I have never seen anything like that.

I would agree with this 100%. You can opt to take the exam at any time. There may have been some misconception as to your original question, because it did seem as though you were asking for the exam questions.

I’m happy to hear that. That’s what makes it all worthwhile, at least to me.

This is why the topic was left open rather than being locked, to allow everyone to clarify any points they might have had. 8)

I disagree. What if you interviewed at my company (for a permanent or consulting job), and said you were XI Certified? Certification is, in theory, a measure or proxy of your level of expertise with that product. If you don’t have extensive XI experience, and manage to pass a certification exam, that is “false advertising”.

Which, by the way, is why certification is over-rated IMO. I don’t believe that certification is, in fact, a good proxy for battle-tested product and IT knowledge. That is, even if your intentions are noble, there are too many other people coming to these forums looking for ways to pass a certification test without true knowledge. Some of them are succeeding, no doubt, by just reading manuals and 3rd-party books. Ergo, certification cannot be blindly trusted.

Go to the following link:

There are PDF files that you can download and they should answer most of your questions.

I think,
If you have experince and knowledge,
Desire to acquire more knowldge,
Abilty to share some knowledge,
Dare to Implement knowldge,
Capibilty to unlearn false knowldge,
Care to test knowledge …

You don’t need Certification…
Just be on B  B…
all of above is possible…

BOBurao (BOB member since 2005-09-20)

As I have always said, certification (of any kind) should be viewed as a personal feat, a compliment to your working experience. No more and no less.

A certification should never ever be viewed as a “meal ticket”.

Just my $0.02.
