How to Compare/find differences between 2 Universes

Hi All,

I am using BO 6.1 and I have two versions of Universe.I would like to compare the two and find whether they are identical and if not what is the difference.If anyone has faced a similar situation then please let me know the solution.Awaiting your response.

Not sure if there is an easier way but in the past when I needed to compare two universes I would save them as PDF’s and then use acrobat to do a compare.

You could perhaps use the manger universe that comes with the BO installation (assuming you are using Oracle), then build a report for each of the universes and do a compare there. Not the most scientific, but should point you an indication if there are differences and where they might be.

check the revision number of the univers avaiable in the second tab of univers properties or the file date to see the most recent one (A good practice is to list in unv properties change made and date of it)

EQM, by NOAD offers the ability to compare two different versions of a universe. If you don’t want to spend the money for that, the you’ll probably need to use the ManagerO universe to build some queries against your Universe Domain, and compare the two that way.

Hi,

if you work with an Oracle repo you can generate SQL with managero and then use the minus command.

As long as your universes are both exported then it is actually very easy to write a report that retrieves classes, objects, and object definitions from the repository. Write two queries, one for each universe. Then link based on class ID, object ID, and so on. You can build filters that show only items in A and not in B, or vice versa, or use Alerters to highlight differences. It can be really slick. :slight_smile:

But both universes have to be exported. So you either need two universe domains (preferred method) or two different universe names to make this work.

Hi guys,
Version Manager can compare universes, reports, wid docs, text, sql and word files.
You can download a full functional trial version for 30 days, and do your compare.
